The Fluffy Black Kitten: a warning!

Note: The kittens pictured here are paid actors and not the actual kitten as it was too dark for pictures :)

Sunday Shari and I were driving to a missionary bible study when suddenly we had to swerve to avoid a tiny mass of black fluff in the middle of the bumpy dirt road.  The kitten was alive but very intent on something on the ground, probably a bug.  To my amazement he hadn’t heard us approach and still was intent on the thing at his paws.  Even when our micro japenese surplus van bounced rattled and groaned its way to a stop the kitten still didn’t notice us.  “He is going to get hit, I better move him.” Decided the always compassionate Shari as she popped out of the van and walked around to my side where I was still watching the cute but clueless kitten.  Finally Shari’s foot must have entered his field of view for he did the hysterical kitten hop and then with hardly enough time for his four little paws to hit dirt he sped off into the bushes.  As we rattled on our way over the rocky dirt road I was chuckling at the distracted kitten.  It had been dark and I am not sure how we even saw the little shadow in the pitted road.  It was right in our path and had narrowly escaped a trip to kitty heaven.  The silly situation still stuck with me the next day as I thought about perspective.  It was easy to laugh at the clueless kitten but it would have been sad if we had crushed its little body because it wasn’t paying attention to the oncoming danger-us.  How many times do we get so focused on something in our hands that we are oblivious to the dangers around us.  Are you focusing on something today that is distracting you from a something looming on the horizon?  Has your focus on the unimportant made you drop your guard against the little dangers that add up eventually to annihilation?  There is nothing wrong with lady bugs or whatever bug this kitten was so fascinated with but the harmless bug drew him out to the center of a busy road and almost cost him his life.  What harmless thing today is pulling you away from where God wants you to be?  What harmless thing is causing you to drop your guard?  What harmless thing may cost you your life?  Look up!
Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light."See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is…Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (Ephesians 5:14-17 and 1 Peter 5:8)
